Bio

“I live to create, I create to live.” – Jacob Shindler
At a young age, Jacob Shindler enjoyed working with his hands as a creative outlet. This prolific need to create led Jacob through many creative manifestations before he discovered the world of fashion. Unfortunately, the concept of sewing was foreign to him. At The Wilson College of Textiles, Jacob was able to develop his skills in design, sewing, pattern drafting, and construction in order to breathe life to the ideas swimming in his head. As a designer, Jacob focuses on three core mantras: beauty, quality, and accessibility. Clothes must be beautifully designed, made from the best quality materials, well-crafted, and accessible to all.

Jacob is a senior within The Wilson College of Textiles at North Carolina State University. He will be receiving his Bachelor of Science in Fashion Development and Product Management in Spring 2016. Jacob plans to continue his education at North Carolina State University and receive his Master of Textiles in Spring 2017. After graduation, Jacob will work in the fashion industry to gain industry insight and experience and, eventually, develop his own line of women’s ready-to-wear clothing and accessories.

Collection Description: Inspired by the “Made in America” trend, An American Splendor utilizes natural fabrics, repurposed materials, and unique prints to develop a reinterpretation of modern America. Repurposed materials consist of men’s dress shirts and home goods that were sourced from local thrift stores and pieced together to forge extraordinary and sustainable garments. By repurposing existing goods, utilizing current technology, and creating well-crafted clothing from high quality materials, An American Splendor aims to celebrate the American aesthetic while shedding light on sustainable design.
