Expectations

Participants in the REU program are expected to sign a statement of understanding prior to joining the program. The details of which are below.

The primary purpose of the REU program is to gain experience in academic research approaches and techniques, as well as in written and oral presentation of research outcomes. An additional purpose is to provide exposure to textile laboratory environments and teach safe equipment operation.

Participants are expected to be able to work both independently and as part of a team, in an unstructured environment, which is typical of research.

Participants must attend 75% of the workshops offered. Attendance at social events is not required but strongly encouraged.

Participants will disseminate their work at the end of the summer in the form of a poster presentation.

Participants will work a total of 200 hours over the course of the 10 week program, or 20 hours per week.

Participants are expected to abide by any and all safety protocols put in place by NC State University and Wilson College with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participants are expected to adhere to all safety protocols as established by their respective labs, the TECS Department and NC State University.

Each student will conduct themselves in accordance with the NC State University Code of Student Conduct.

Any participant who does not comply with the statement of understanding may be dismissed from the program.
