Primary Investigator: Wei Gao, a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science, earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from Rice University in 2012. She did her postdoctoral research in the Materials Physics & Applications (MPA) Division at Los Alamos National Lab, as a Director’s Postdoctoral Fellow. She obtained her B.S. and M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from Nanjing University, China.
Shradha V. Patil earned her Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech and later at Department of Forest Biomaterials at North Carolina State University. She graduated with Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Organic Chemistry from University of Pune in India. Her research interests are high performance materials, sustainable solutions, green technologies and renewable material chemistry.
Nanfei He: a graduate student pursuing Ph.D. in Fiber & Polymer Science. Nanfei earned her B.S. in Textile Engineering and M.S. in Nonwoven Materials and Engineering from Donghua University, China. She is experienced in fiber science and nonwoven material. She is working on the integration of graphene/graphene oxide and various textiles.
Yanan Wang: obtained her B.S. degree in Biological Functional Materials and M.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Beijing University of Chemical Technology. She will start her PhD study at NC State in Aug. 2018 and join the group to work on multifunctional elastomeric nonwovens.
Qin Pan: attended Zhejiang University in China where she earned her BS degree in Polymer Science and MS degree in Materials Engineering. She did her PhD at NC State since Aug 2015 and joined the group to study graphene/graphene oxide materials and its application in energy conversion and storage.
Jiangang Qu: Currently a lecturer in the School of Textile and Clothing, Nantong University, China. He obtained his Ph.D in Textile Chemistry and Dyeing and Finishing in 2015 from Donghua University, China. He has been working on the synthesis of textile-based nanomaterial and the light-induced degradation of textile dyes. In April 2018, he will join Dr. Gao’s group as a visiting scholar and work on the synthesis and charaterization of textile-based energy-storage devices.
Fanglan Guan, currently a lecture in material science and engineering department ,Beijing institute of fashion technology, is an expert in textile physical finishing and textile printing. She will work on the integration of energy storage devices onto textiles.
Guixia Wang：A lecturer in Analytical Chemistry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Luoyang Normal University, China. She has been working on synthesis and characterization of molybdenum disulfide nanosheets and the direct electron transfer mechanism of heme proteins. She obtained her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 2013 from Nanjing University, China. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry, Beijing Normal University, China in 2006. She will join Dr. Gao’s group as a visiting scholar in summer 2016.
Hamid Hamedi earned his MS on chemical engineering process design from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) in 2009. Recently he has worked on antibacterial and antimicrobial essential oils that have potential in bio medicine. He joined to Dr GAO’s Research group in October 2017 and pursues his study in wound healing methods by using some degradable materials.
Sara Moradi: a Ph.D. student in Arak University, Iran. She earned her MSc. in chemical engineering from Arak University. Currently, she is working on “preparation of antibacterial wound dressing based on natural and biodegradable polymers”. In the next step, she is going to incorporate drug into the dressing for accelerating wound healing process. She has joined to Dr. Gao’s research group in May 2017.
Vahid Babaahmadi is a Ph.D. student in Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic), Iran. Currently, he is working on “Synthesis and application of reduced graphene oxide on polyester fabric to obtain multifunctional textile”. He was born in Yazd, Iran (1987), He earned his B.Sc. in textile chemistry and fiber science from Yazd University, Iran (2005-2009) and then he earned his M.Sc. in same field from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic), Iran (2009-2011).
High School Student Interns:
Julia Wang: worked with Dr. Gao’s research group during the 2017 Summer Research Internship Program sponsored by her high school, the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM). She studied the cross-linking of graphene oxide under the guidance of Ms. Nanfei He. Her research interests include materials science, solid-state physics, computer science, and mathematics. She will graduate from high school in May 2018 and start college in the fall. She won second at the regional level and honorable mention at the state level of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) with the research project. In April 2018,Julia has accepted the admission offer from MIT class of 2022.
