In preparation for scanning, close fitting scan wear may be donned, then …
White light is used to capture the image of the body. Then the image is translated into data.
A captured image translated into a 3D point cloud is pictured at right. An amazing amount of data is contained in this point cloud. Not all of it is useful for every purpose. Consequently, for use in apparel applications, measurements are extracted from the point cloud data.
The point cloud data is reduced and the body is segmented in order to determine the appropriate landmarks for measurement extraction.
The image at right represents an extracted measurement data set. From the 3D point cloud, a possible 128 measurements may be extracted for input to an apparel design program.
